Forty meat goat producers in Franklin County, North Carolina, USA, founded a
meat goat cooperative now known as North Carolina Meat Goat Producers, Inc.
(NCMGP) in July 2001. The cooperative was a pilot program in North Carolina
designed to develop alternative agricultural markets for farmers by
establishing meat goat operations and markets.
Collectively, the organization has a
mission to pool individual knowledge and interest, improve individual
production programs and increase the quality of North Carolina meat goats.
Membership has grown to encompass meat goat producers across the state of
North Carolina. As the organization continues to grow, both in numbers of
producers and quantity of goats, fresh North Carolina Cabrito and Chevon will
be made available to retail stores, restaurants and consumers.
We are committed to the production,
marketing and selling of high quality meat goats and prime and choice USDA
grade fresh whole/quartered goat carcasses and goat meat in vacuum-packages
(2-3 LB). Halal (Muslim blessed) carcasses and vacuum-packages are available
as well.
Our product, with its distinctive flavor,
is nutritionally superior to chicken, pork, beef and lamb. In addition, our
products can be tracked from the farm all the way to your table for added
assurance of quality and satisfaction. We ensure our meat is antibiotic and
medicinal residue free.
All Chevon and Cabrito offered through the
NCMGP is certified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture’s
“Goodness Grows in North Carolina” program.
